Major points of emphasis that happen daily or weekly in my room:
Classroom Money -students will receive $20 each week that will be deposited into their classroom checking account if they completed all their homework for the week. Students are charged fees and fines for things like forgetting homework, not coming to class prepared, or behavior. Students are able to earn money in many different ways. Some of these include but are not limited to, classroom participation, passing skill quizzes, and going above and beyond within the classroom setting.
Flexible Seating - I am implementing something new this year called flexible seating. There will be several different seating/standing areas. Each student will be assigned a “home” seat that they may be asked to return to at any time. Flexible seating encourages students to choose their type of seating based on their learning preferences. There will be 5 standing desks (with stools if they choose to sit), a traditional table with chairs, and students who also love to move while working have a table with yoga balls.
Math Centers -Students will rotate through 2 day math centers weekly to biweekly. This allows for individualized lessons, instruction, and activities. Centers include, math with a teacher, self, technology, and math with a friend. During centers students are able to work through at their own pace. Videos are typically available during the technology center which can be found on the 6math tab to re watch some of the lesson skills.
